The journey
The Annapurna Base Camp trek is one of the most rewarding short treks in Nepal. In just 5 days, you'll go from Pokhara through dense rhododendron forests, past natural hot springs, and into the glacial amphitheatre of the Annapurna Sanctuary at 4,130 metres.
The Sanctuary is a natural amphitheatre ringed by some of the world's most dramatic peaks: Annapurna I (8,091m), Annapurna South, Hiunchuli, Machapuchare (the iconic fishtail peak), and Gangapurna. Standing in the centre of this ring at base camp is one of the most humbling experiences in trekking.
This is the perfect trek for those with limited time who still want a proper high-altitude Himalayan experience. No technical climbing required, just solid fitness and a willingness to walk uphill.

Common questions
Is this suitable for first-time trekkers?
+Yes — ABC is one of our top recommendations for first-time Himalayan trekkers. At 5 days and 4,130m max elevation, it's genuinely challenging but very achievable with good fitness. You'll get the full high-altitude Himalayan experience without a Hard-rated commitment.
How fit do I need to be?
+You should be comfortable walking 5–7 hours a day on steep terrain. Some hill training in the weeks before will make a noticeable difference. This trek is rated Moderate — strong beginners manage it well with preparation.
What happens if I get altitude sickness?
+Your guide monitors symptoms throughout using a pulse oximeter. The route has a natural acclimatisation profile. Max elevation is 4,130m — if descent is needed, the trail back down is well-established and relatively quick.
Do we fly to Pokhara or drive?
+We fly Kathmandu to Pokhara (30 minutes), then drive to the trailhead. Both the flight and ground transport are included in your package. It makes a big difference to the overall experience to arrive in Pokhara rather than spending a full day in a bus.
Can I join as a solo traveller?
+Absolutely. Many solo trekkers join our ABC group departures. It's a great trek for meeting other travellers.
Is travel insurance required?
+Yes, mandatory. Must cover high-altitude trekking to at least 5,000m and emergency helicopter evacuation. We'll confirm your policy before departure.
Are tips for guides and porters expected?
+Yes. Tips are an important part of your crew's income and are not included in the price. Guideline: guide $15–20 AUD/day, porter $8–10 AUD/day, split across the group.
What's the cancellation policy?
+A $500 deposit secures your spot. Full payment is due 60 days before departure. Cancellations with 60+ days notice receive a full deposit refund. Contact us for cancellations inside 60 days.
